Podcasting

Have you ever longed to make your own movie or slideshow? Well, you can now! In Nueva summer camp there is a camp for podcasting! Here, Nueva campers make their own podcasts. Every week, kids have been working hard and using iMovie HD, Garageband, iPhoto, and iTunes. In the end they all have wonderful slideshows or videos. Then they burn them on CDs so they can take their podcasts home to watch. “

“It’s really fun, because you get to choose what pictures you want to use in your podcast,” says camper Arianna. “I liked that we got to take our podcasts home on a CD.”

Nueva's Goats

Did you know that Nueva School has goats? The two goats are ALWAYS eating something. Once in photography, we went to take pictures of the goats. One girl was fiddling with a twig that was hanging near her head. One of the goats started going crazy to get the juicy green leaf that was on the twig. He even stood on two legs! When that didn’t work, he put his hooves on her knees like a not-so-innocent puppy.

Soccer Show Down

By: Grant

Today, on week 2, Wednesday, in Nueva summer school GCC, a soccer tournament happened. There were three epic teams that fought with all of their will to be today’s champion. They fought to be the best by kicking and controlling the ball. The three team captains were, Zachery, Justin, and Grant. These three players would do almost anything to win the prize, the glory of winning. The red team captain, Zachery scored a goal second, when he dashed up from his goalie position. Justin played goalie for the yellows in both of his games were he tied one and lost one with no goals but excellent tricks. Justin also had no strong controlled shoots. Grant, the captain of the blue, scored one cross shot goal. There was a tie between red and blue that ended the tournament.

The next day, they only played with 2 teams in the finals, in blue that this time included Zackery and Grant won. They won six zero good job blues, and amazing tricks and goals.

Caleb's Profile

On Wednesday June 29, 2011 I interviewed Nueva summer camp counselor Caleb A. Jones. He had an interesting childhood. As a kid he went to Nueva School from pre kindergarten to 8th grade. He liked to write in his free time because he thought he was funny (“I wasn’t really that funny he says”) and he liked to make stories come alive. Once he wrote a story about a duck who escapes a zoo in a cannon. In kindergarten he had a friend named Evan Albright. Evan was funny , played the same computer games as Caleb , he lived 2 blocks away from Caleb and they both went to the same high school (Paly).

From Marvel to Manga

Everyday at the Nueva summer camp Media Lab teacher Devin teaches Marvel to Manga. This camp is a comic and superhero making, action packed camp for the 3rd – 5th graders. Devin does this to keep kid's computer skills high and to teach students how to use sites like Comic Life.

The kids there make their own superheroes at the make your own superhero Marvel style website. Then the campers use Comic Life to create their own comic.

This is a very fun class so you should try it out!

In the Tree Tops

Every week a group of kids gather to go to Tree Tops for block B at 10:00. On Monday the children had two activities. One was called Trolley in which you have two wood beams and about four people on each beam. The goal is to get across the finish line by using your group together. But most of the kids like the other activity, Acid Lake.

When you start there are two to three people on three platforms. Each platform is 2 ½ feet by 3 feet. The platforms are about 6 feet away from each other. In the middle there is a rope. Your objective is trying to get the rope without jumping to get it. You cannot touch the ground (acid). If you do fall into the acid you have to reset. You have to get everyone to a different platform to win the game.

The children had trouble getting the rope at first. They kept plunging into the gruesome acid. But they kept working, and found a solution: Two students held another student’s hand as he leaned forward and grabbed the rope. They started swinging from platform to platform. A few people fell of into the acid but they finished before the class ended.
